How To Become A Christian
Accepting Jesus as your personal savior and asking Him to be a part of your life is the best decision you can ever make. No matter what happens around you or what people might say, you can always turn to Him when the going gets tough.
Although people develop their relationship with Jesus differently, the following steps are a good way to begin your journey as a Christian.
Step #1: Believe in Jesus
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
Believe the truth that Jesus exists and wants you to be His child.
Step #2: Confess your sins
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
Before you give your life to Jesus, you need to tell Him about the things you’ve done wrong. You’ll never be free until you’ve confessed your sins to Him.
Step #3: Repent and turn away from your sins
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23
You need to be truly sorry for the wrong things you’ve done. Giving your life to Jesus doesn’t mean you won’t ever sin again, but it does mean you’ll be committed to following His will for your life. When you stumble and fall, just confess it to Jesus and ask His forgiveness.
Step #4: Accept the gift of salvation that Jesus has given
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.
Ephesians 2:8
This is the best part. All you have to do now is accept that Jesus is extending everlasting life to you and wants you to be with Him in Heaven someday.
Step #5: Pray this prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to this world to die for my sins so I can live forever with You in Heaven.
I accept You as my Savior and I want You to be Lord of my life. Please forgive me of my sins and help me to forgive others who have sinned against me.
I want You to be in control of my life. Please help me make choices that will honor You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
